The Etsy blog: spotlight on 'granny chic'

I'm really loving the Etsy blog, which I've just discovered. They regularly feature Etsy members' homes – and follow each inspiring "I wanna live there!" shoot with a long and dangerously tempting shopping guide from around the site, to help you get the look yourself.

This pretty home is in Connecticut and belongs to Amanda Wytas-Ackerman who lives there with husband, Rob, their three children and Buster the bull mastiff.

It's a very simple detail but I just love the homely, tied kitchen curtains. And how cute does that candle look in the fruit bowl? Also most inspired by the use of a battered door leaning against the wall as a way of adding a different tone and texture to a wall. Enjoy.

Clever upcycled jam jar lamps

I just came across this pretty chandelier, above, made from jam jars on Etsy (and, below, there's one made from amber punch glasses, right, and a a night light made from a tissue box, left).

Sadly Boots n Gus, the shop behind this clever creation, only delivers to the States, where it is based. (And not surprising, as this mama would weigh quite a bit to post.) But for those with craft aspirations or, even better, actual skills – the images of all the ingenious things the owner has fabricated out of, essentially, rubbish, are super inspiring. *UPDATE: have heard from Fritz Fryer antique lighting, in the UK, who say they can fashion customers similar lamps, and for around the same price - $130/£80 * The lamp made from glasses, below, is super simple – as there is just one single light source in the middle... I'd love to see your own creative endeavours so please drop me a line and a snap if you'd like to share.

For more lighting inspiration, read my recent 'how-to' lighting tips in the Independent on Sunday.

Chinoiserie in Ming....and more

It's been so nice to finally get back into the studio over the weekend, and I definitely made the most of it. I've got some new blue and white paintings on the go, and yesterday I finished the first of them. I was commissioned to paint an antique chinoiserie plate to add my my client's collection, and here it is:

     'Chinoiserie in Ming'
    watercolour and pencil on paper
    210mm x 297mm (8.3" x 11.7")
original sold, prints for sale now on Etsy

I've often been asked whether my Chinoiserie series would ever be available in other colourways. Another client of mine collects vintage china in red, as does my lovely mum (I'll share some pics soon of her huge collection) so it was logical that these followed:

      'Chinoiserie in Pink'
    watercolour and pencil on paper
    210mm x 297mm (8.3" x 11.7")
prints for sale now on Etsy

     'Chinoiserie in Ruby'
    watercolour and pencil on paper
    210mm x 297mm (8.3" x 11.7")
prints for sale now on Etsy

And that's not all.....check out my Etsy shop over the coming days for lots more new goodies, in all sorts of glorious colours. If you 'like' my Facebook page, or follow me on Twitter, you'll be the first to know whenever a new painting is added. So pop on over, I'd love to see you there!

And before I forget. I will make sure I reply personally to each and every one of you that commented and messaged me recently. I've read and appreciated every one, so thank you and I'll make sure I reply over the coming week. Another twenty or so hours in each day would be rather handy right now!

Gorgeous Ukranian love birds

These love birds are actually badges (they're about 6cm x 7cm each), but I think they'd look lovely on a mantlepiece or a shelf above the bed.

They're one of a little flock, sold in Moloco, the Etsy shop of architect and designer, Maria Bormosheva, who lives in Ukraine. You can buy them from her Esty shop, from around £9 each (including postage) where her profile makes you want to buy her lovingly crafted little things even more: "Once I understood that I cannot live without being engaged in needlework," she writes, "and so I am here." Lucky us.

Last chance!

Just a quick reminder that today is the last day of the 20% off sale in my Etsy shop. Last orders will be posted tomorrow, and then I'll be taking a break until the 18th January. Thanks so much everyone for your overwhelming support, and I can't wait to share all my plans for the new year. I finished my very last original painting yesterday - a new addition to my blue and white Chinoiserie series:

Right, I'm off to finish decorating the house, ready for Christmas day. Thankfully, the pool is now finished and ready to go, and although the forecast is for rain, rain and more rain, it's actually a beautiful day here today. So I'm going to make the most of it and get the place looking all pretty and festive,  and play with a few ideas I have for zhushing up the table. In general, I plan to enjoy one of the only summery days we've had in ages!

Hope you all have a great day, and I'll catch you all soon.

Breaking news...

Now that I've got your attention, I thought I'd let you know that I've just listed the first of my brand-spankin' new art prints on my brand-spankin' new Etsy shop! The first pieces on offer are my sea fan prints, and I'll add other styles and colours over the coming weeks.

these are in a lovely washed-denim blue (for want of a better description!)

As this whole Etsy caper is very new to me, I'd like to thank everyone for their support and encouragement - without you all, this would have remained a work in progress for far too long! In particular, the lovely Janette from My Sweet Prints was invaluable with her help and advice, and she's a shining example of all that's wonderful about this blogging community we have here. But that comes as no surprise to me, because (and this is just between you and me) I think I have the best blog readers - and friends - around. No contest.

In The Jungle...

I was looking for a watercolor on Etsy for a client when I came across this...
You probably know by now my love for lions, well this is no exception. I wanted to press purchase immediately. Well I was able to exert some self control and went on to see what other lions needed to come live with me....
Love the regal feel of the one above and simplicity of the print below....
Yep, want this one A LOT...
For some reason this one reminds me of Harry...
Note to Patrick...when we have children it will be in our best interest, financially speaking, to keep me off Etsy. Love, Love, Love...
