The Office-Part Two: 2 Men and a Truck

Before the move a friend asked me if I was hiring Two Men and a Truck to come move the office. I replied, "No, more like two parents and a husband".So the three biggest cheerleaders of my life spent their weekend helping me relocate "just a few pieces". Isn't it odd how things multiply when you move? I swear I did not have this many samples before, did you see how small the room was I worked out of?

After many long hours we left on Sunday night with it looking like this...

Which was a lot better than earlier that day.
I can't thank my parents and Patrick enough (here they are fixing the window, what I can I say, I had to get a picture- I am my mother's child). Speaking of mothers I am not sure how she escaped without me getting a single picture of her in action, she only loaded and unloaded roughly 5 million items from the car. On top of being pregnant and not much help, my chronic back injury decided to join the party (dumb disc, I hate you more than my computer virus), which meant even more work for them. To say I am grateful to them would be a massive understatement, they are the best "coworkers" a girl could ask for.

Needless to say I was sad to see them go and Monday I started the daunting task of organizing. I will say it is really coming around. More pictures on the way soon....

P.S.- Happy Cinco de Mayo, one of my favorite days of the year!

The Office-Part One: In On The Ground Floor

There are so many lines I could start this post with:

"Beggars can't be choosers", "Life is all about compromise", "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, well you might find you get what you need".So this is what my new office looked like the first time I saw it. I actually came to this building to look at another office upstairs. I fell in love with the building, it is an old school that they are redoing to be historically accurate (talk about speaking my language). However, I wasn't in love with the tiny space (not shown) upstairs. Between being pregnant, having a chronic back injury and knowing how many samples- fabric books, tile, etc. I carry in and out I was not thrilled to be up a flight of stairs.

However, when you have a small budget you can't be picky. But you never know what is just around the corner, or in this case just downstairs. The guy who owns the building gave me a tour and low and behold there on the first floor (unfinished they are completing the upstairs first) was a diamond in the rough. And as Mom always says, it never hurts to ask. So I asked him if I moved in to the unfinished office would he work with me...and he did. And just like that another dream started to come to fruition...

More to come in another post but this what it looked like when he handed over the keys. He did finish the floors and somewhat clean up the wiring but the walls and ceiling are still completely exposed. To be honest, except for the noise I would keep it that way forever.

This Is The Last Week I Will...

This is the last week I will be working from this office...and I can't wait! Out of the house and into a much larger space...as you can tell, I need more room desperately. This is only half of it, I also have a storage space with more samples, furniture, etc.

If I am being really honest with you this a relatively clean state, usually it just looks like a disaster.

Just a few more days to go....I can't wait to share the new space with you!

Client Moving...Exciting Times Ahead

A client I am so very fond of (who lives in Memphis) is getting married and will be moving into a new home soon. We were discussing the new house and it is so exciting to continue what we started. Here are some pictures of what we have been working on in her current house (I swear before she leaves I am going to get better pictures). For example, these pictures do not show how gorgeous her bedding really is or the pretty rug in this room. The lights will be coming with us, we are both still obsessed.
The ceiling was one of my favorite parts of this room...
I love to think about the new house knowing what great pieces are coming from the old house. Every piece we chose we made sure would last for a long time and transition into other spaces. Remember how much I loved this artist? Her art collection, including this John Robinette beauty, is quite impressive.
More art I love... lamps, side tables, pillows, you all are coming as well...hop in the Uhaul.
This may be a dud of a picture but it holds so much goodness. When I get a better picture I will explain what is above the sofa, very cool. The sofa itself is a long time love of mine- linen perfection. Also hard to see is the skirted table, it turned out so well I can't wait to find a new home for it.
More to come as we get ready for the move...

One these days, hopefully in 2011 since it was my January 2011 goal and we are almost in May, I am going to get my work photographed professionally. Until then I will continue to share little tidbits with you like this bathroom...It mainly services two little boys but there is something in there for everyone. I can't wait to show you the details.....you know, one of these days.

Market Round Up

I had big plans to do a very organized post on Market but it looks like that is not going to happen. I took over 1,000 pictures and yet finding ones to post was harder than I thought. Sooo, with that being said here is a little of what we saw...Above- the fabric in the background is Suzanne Kasler for Lee Jofa. We drooled over it while discussing ways to use it in our homes. Then low and behold there was Suzanne herself (not pictured). Last time I met her was in NYC and I am pretty sure I scared her with my verbal proclamation of love for her so this time I kept it cool. Well, at least I tried...
There was art to be had in all shapes and sizes. While botanicals are still hitting their stride (and always will being classics), it definitely seemed thinking outside the box was the way to go.
    Pretty setup...
Orange is also big right now..
Another trend that seems to be headed our way can be spotted in this picture. Can you guess what it is? Probably not because it is subtle. The flange/flat pleat along the sofa cushions was seen in several showrooms. I've got to say while not new to me I LOVE it, but we debated if it would get crazy and bent after a while.
Can you see the headboard on this bed? So cool in person.
Big bright art? Check. Flat sofa cushion trim? Check.
I had to put this piece on here even though this picture really doesn't come close to properly portraying this bookcase. It is fully upholstered in the most gorgeous fabric. Even the inside is done in a leather. Breathtaking, really.
Speaking of upholstery, fabric front furniture made a statement in multiple showrooms...
And while gray is here to stay for a while (which you know I love), vibrant statement making fabrics on large pieces was a welcome change.
Color was everywhere, including bright gourd and ceramic lamps which are still thriving (especially with Lucite bottoms)...
Nature is still around and larger than life, a trend that I will love even when it is long since "out".
Black and whites, can't go wrong.
O.B.S.E.S.S.E.D. Leather and brass (although there are other finishes) lights. Can't stop thinking about these.
These caught my eye too, I was definitely on the look out for items that didn't look like everything else we see over and over again.
Different fabric on the outside than the inside of furniture- once again not new but a trend I welcome freely.
So many pretty lights in one picture.
Bright rugs in pinks and oranges? Yes, please.
This ALMOST came home with me. almost....
You see those boards? They are on my must have list for the new office. Watch out staple gun, it is time for you to come out of hiding.
One of my favorite movies? The Thomas Crown Affair. If you have seen it you know why I thought this display was worth the mention.
Speaking of things that almost came home with me, antique carousel horses. One of these in the nursery would be the statement piece my dreams are made of.
I don't really have good pictures to show of this but there was a good deal of feminine touches to counter all the masculine looks of late. Even though I consider myself more towards the latter, it was a nice change and one I plan on incorporating.
    Another great display.
And my partner in crime testing out a glider for me (not in that fabric). I mentioned yesterday that peacock was in, Camila did a great post on it yesterday on Effortless Style for those of you who want to see more. Several of you have asked for a "bump" shot, there is a better one in that post but I will get one up here soon.
Whew, hope you enjoyed that peek at High Point. I am so glad the weekend is here so I can recover! I hope you have a great one!

Better Together..Market Part 1

I went to High Point for the purpose of finding new sources, a goal that was well exceeded. Market was great!!! While I did find new sources which I am really excited about, the best part was actually something else. The most gratifying and beneficial aspect was time spent with peers/friends, I did not realize how much I needed it. This industry at times can be hard and draining and sometimes you need a little jump start...some new inspiration to get you excited again. I found that in Camila, Lauren and Traci (not pictured sadly, don't know how we didn't get a picture). It is so refreshing to spend time with others going through what you are, knowing exactly how you feel. Talking to all of them was such a breath of fresh air. Isn't it amazing how you can feel like you have known someone forever?
I am a big believer in time spent with mentors and peers. Right now is a big transition time for me and every conversation I have had over the past few months with someone from either group has really been a blessing. I am so thankful to have such a great support system to call on for advice and camaraderie.
So onto Market- well, I thought I would have more time to go through pictures but I ran out of time so I will give you a preview and show you much, much more tomorrow. I can tell you that among the trends we saw were- large art, fun prints on upholstery, leather in every color and.....peacock- the color and actual bird.
We were shocked by this since it feels like peacock (both types) came and went but apparently they are here for a while. The festive birds/the color were EVERYWHERE. Alright, time to get going, more to come tomorrow.
