Something's Gotta Give...

Hi all, how's things? I've been under the weather for the past week, so I spent the time planning and plotting the design of my new/revamped house. Like many millions of other die-hard fans, I fell in love with the film "Something's Gotta Give"... in particular, that stunning Hamptons home of Erica's. I've watched the DVD endlessly to savour every little morsel of the design....so many gorgeous details, I could go on for ever. But there are a few common elements that crop up again and again in my inspiration folders, that will definitely make their way into my plan.

    1. Comfy white slipcovered sofas...and a blue and white striped rug

    2. Windows...one of the most important features of a home, IMHO. Love these, complete with transoms (hello A-M!!)

    3. White subway tiles, stainless appliances, feature lighting

    4. This bedroom....quite perfect actually. I might change the windows for french doors, but that's about it.

I thought I'd found every post every written on this house, so imagine how excited I was to stumble upon a floor plan, drafted by a fan and shared on Linda Merrill's fabulous blog, Silver Screen Surroundings. Although it's a fan's interpretation of the design, it's a pretty good one if you ask me. Pity there's not an actual plan from the movie set...if anyone manages to come across one, I'd love it if you'd share it!

Now, my design won't slavishly copy this house....as I mentioned in my previous post, I have lots of other design influences to incorporate. But really, they all have these elements in common, so I'm sure I can blend them all together and come up with something nice. Once I add a little quintessential Aussie beach house loveliness...

...and of course, not forgetting a little Ralph Lauren magic, into the mix....

...I think it could be rather special. I'm working on a floor plan of my own, so as soon as it's done I'll share it too.

    Have a great week everyone,

Home Beautiful? Sure is.

Over the weekend I spent a bit of time tying to organize my computer files into some sort of order - although it seems I'm fighting a losing battle. Anyhoo, I came across some familiar photos in my travels, and thought you might recognize this one too:

    Gorgeous pool with Parterre daybed

Look familiar? Well, that's because it starred on the cover of the January issue of Home Beautiful magazine.

Although now sold, this was the Avalon home of an art director/stylist, and it shows. It has that typical laid-back, relaxed Northern Beaches vibe (perfection in my book) and promises the perfect beach lifestyle.

Rather nice don't you think? My only suggestion would be to add a few paintings here and there (yes, that was a blatant plug, I know!)

It's going to be another scorcher here in Brissie today, so I'm planning little more than some painting, swimming, and Oscar red carpet watching. How 'bout you?

For Sale...some of my favourite homes. Ever.

A couple of weeks ago, I was doing a little real estate stalking, and found that some of my all-time favourite houses were for sale. Many of these have been featured in magazines, and all share the same, luxury beach house style. One is also the work of my favourite architect, Walter Barda, whose designs, in my opinion, capture that quintessential Aussie beach house vibe.

     1. 4 Nabilla Road, Palm Beach NSW

     2. 35 Careel Head Road, Avalon NSW

    3. 149 Hudson Pde, Avalon NSW. Designed by Walter Barda. Divine.

4, 174 Hudson Parade, Clareville NSW

Wonder if I could convince Mr Barda to move to Brisbane? I think his designs would work just perfectly up here.

Have a great day everyone, I know I will - I'm catching up with the lovely author of one of my favourite blogs. Will share all the goss tomorrow!

St Barts stunner

The October issue of Coastal Living Magazine just arrived today, and inside I found this beautiful Carribean home. What was once a dark and dated 70's style house has been completely transformed by designer Barry Dixon, to become the perfect island retreat.

love the door, the colour, the shutters...oh, and the herringbone paving

I know many of you are decorating for autumn/fall, but for those of us in the southern hemisphere who are heading into summer, this looks like the perfect place for a beach holiday. Love it!
