Home Decor: 5 Easy Ways to Add Color to Your Room

Is your room not sending the right messages to your guests? Does your sofa look plain and outdated? Would you like to give your room an easy facelift? Adding color to a room can bring your space to life and add style to your home. Lets take a moment to review the basics of decorating with color.

Yellow, orange, red and pink are referred to as warm colors. This is because they remind us of the warmth of the sun or a campfire. Blue, green and purple are referred to as cool colors. They remind us of grass and the ocean. There are plenty of neutral colors such as your grays and browns. Neutral colors tend to not contrast with other colors.

Paint can give your interior an entirely new look. When choosing a color for your wall, it is important for you to decide on the type of mood you would like to set for the room. What feel or moods are you trying to create in your room? Would you like a warm or cool atmosphere in your room? What color décor will be incorporated in this room? It is also important to choose the type of paint finish you would like to have on your walls. There are many to select from.

Sometimes adding something as small as a throw pillow or cushions on a sofa, love seat or chair, can transform a room's disposition. Different textures along with the right colors can produce an incredibly distinctive look to your space.

The right lamp can bring great sophistication as well as better lighting in a room. Always choose a lamp along with a lampshade. A shade helps to pull a room together and should coordinate with the other lamps in the room. They do not have to match identically.

Many people leave their windows naked with only shades and blinds to dress them. Drapes and curtains shouldn't only be considered as a means of adding privacy to your home. Hanging them to your window can soften and add texture to the room while filtering out unwanted sunlight. Choose draperies with a length that will benefit your room's décor. Long drapes add design and eloquence to the décor as it lays along the floor.

The easiest and fastest way to add life to your room is to, well, add life to your room. Placing fresh cut flowers and indoor plants in your room will give it an earthy feeling while satisfying your need for color.

Adding color to your home décor should be fun. It may take some time before you find a color scheme that you are happy with. But it will be well worth the effort.

Valances as Easy Interior Design Accents

Window valances are a simple way to add interest and beauty to your windows. They can either stand alone to create a striking fashion statement, or be hung in conjunction with other window treatments, such as drapes, sheers or blinds. You can use a ready-to-hang valance or make your own.

Valances come in a wide variety of designs and fabrics to create the perfect feel in your home. They can be formal or casual, free-flowing or constructed. Here are a few popular valance types.

Balloon valances have a puffy, cloud-like appearance when hung above a window. Sometimes, to accentuate the fullness of the valance, they're stuffed with tissue paper or newspaper. They're generally made of lightweight fabric, and used for a more casual look.

Swag valances are created when a long scarf of fabric is hung across the top of the window, and secured by decorative sconces or brackets, resulting in a graceful drape of fabric on the window. A swag is sometimes simply hung over a curtain rod. They can be used on many different types and sizes of windows: short or long, narrow or wide. Lightweight fabrics work best in this application, as they're easier to arrange and they hang nicely. They can be used to create a casual look or more of a polished look.

Pleated valances provide a way to create a formal look. They're generally constructed of stiffer, heavier fabrics to better hold their shape. Lighter weight fabrics can be used, but are generally attached to a heavier backing for added support.

Valances can also alter the look of a window by the way they're hung. They're generally hung over the top of the window, in such a way that the bottom of the valance covers the top of the window. As a rule, they shouldn't cover more than one-third of a window. They can also be used to visually reduce the size of a tall window. Longer valances can give the appearance of a smaller window behind it. Or they can bisect a window, similar to a café curtain, to create a look on the lower portion of the window.

Beginners and experts alike can use valances to change the look of a room. You can find ideas anywhere, from home design books, to magazines to the internet. Valances don't have to be store-bought to be attractive. A little creativity can go a long way toward creating the home décor that fits your lifestyle.

Top 5 Tips For Home Decorators

Is your house and home feeling a little bit tired and jaded? Does it lack that special edge that it once had? If so you're no doubt sick of living in a home that no longer suits you so why not convert that drab interior to something fantastic? Your home should be a place of rest and relaxation. A place for you to recharge your batteries that have been drained by todays busy lifestyles. The great news is that regardless of what type of look or feel you want your redecorated home to have there are ideas aplenty available to you for use as inspiration.

There are several important tips that you should follow for each interior or home decorating project:

    1. Choose A Theme Have a very clear idea of what you want the finished "product" to look like before you begin. Get your hands on as many home decorating books and magazines as you can. As you read through them you'll find yourself drawn to one theme or style more than others. Exposure to as many decorating styles as possible is the key to success here.

    2. Choose A Color Scheme During your theme research you'll have noticed that most decorating themes rely on specific color schemes to achieve the required results; those colors are standard to that particular decorating theme. What do we mean by this? Well for example Asian decorating styles and themes are dominated by the use of red, black and dark blue. Another example is tropical decorating themes which rely more on green, red and aqua colors. Your chosen theme will, realistically, follow the same basic pattern of using a fixed palette of colors for the entire decorating project.

    3. Choose A Use For the Room What will you actually do in the room you're redecorating? Just because the room was originally built for a specific purpose don't mentally trap yourself by only decorating to that particular type of room. For example if your family eats most of their meals in the kitchen then don't decorate your dining room with a large dining table and accessories - it's a waste of the room. It could be converted to a study, home office or even a play room so don't limit your thinking to using any room for its original purpose - unless it suits you of course.

    4. The Shopping List Of all the items that you could potentially list here paint is the most important. Paint forms the "foundation" of any room and if you rush the paint job then everything that comes afterwards just won't "work" in the room. Another mistake many people make is to buy the cheapest paint possible. You might save a few bucks on the cost of the tin but you'll wind up kicking yourself later on when you realize it's going to take 3 coats to finish each wall instead of just one - it's generally not cost effective to buy cheap paint; it just doesn't cover or finish as well as the more expensive brands.

Also make allowances in your budget for disposable overalls and any cleaning or preparatory materials you might need for your project. Decorating can be a messy business so prepare for the clean up operation before you even begin.

    5. What To Paint With? Another important decision is whether to use brushes, a roller or foam painting pads. Brushes have their uses for "edging out" a room - for those tiny corners. For the large surface areas it makes more sense to use a roller or paint pads. Personally I've found rollers to be just plain old messy and now use paint pads (some stores call them speed painters) for any large surface area that needs to be painted well and quickly. Use a roller if you really have to but bear in mind that they're extremely messy so make sure both you (disposable overalls are ideal) and the flooring is well covered against splashes.

Don't forget to have some fun along the way too! For all the planning, preparation and work that goes into redecorating any room or home it should still be a fun experience for everyone involved. You'll have that added sense of satisfaction knowing that you redecorated or helped to redecorate your home with your own hands. Take some time out to relax in your new room once it's finished - especially before you start redecorating the next room in the house.

Choosing Fabric for Curtains in Your Home Decor

There’s more to shopping for curtain fabric than seeking out the perfect print of the weave those complements the color scheme to perfection. Furnishing fabrics are not all suitable for every situation. With the wide range of weaves and weighs of cloth available, make sure the one you buy will do the job you have in mind. The two most important factors to bear in mind when looking for curtain fabric are resistance to fading and the weight of the fabric.

Light resistance curtains, being so close to windows, take a lot of punishment from sunlight. Make sure to close fabrics that are resistant to fading and rotting by the sun’s rays, particularly for rooms which get the sun throughout most of the day. Look at the weight and quality of the fabric. In general, all but the lightest curtains are worth lining, and even some of the thinner softer cloths, which drape well look very limp unless they are lined.

The after-care of made-up curtains also needs some though when choosing fabric. Unless a fabric is labeled and sold as pre-shrunk of fixed-finished, shrinkage have between five and six per cent is considered normal. Fabric needs to be flexible enough to roll around a wooden dowel. All medium-weight fabrics can be used, but look for tightly woven cottons for really reliable results. If curtains are going to need regular washing it is sensible either to pre-wash the fabric, lining and tape, or to make curtain with detachable linings.

Vintage Chic Interior - A How To Guide

With the recent trend for all things retro, I thought I'd share my thoughts on this quick and easy guide to creating a picture-perfect vintage chic home interior:

    1. Planning Think granny's home in the 60s and 70s with floral motifs and lace tablecloths. There are no hard and fast rules on what makes for a vintage look. Generally, the furnishing includes antiques, second-hand furniture or new pieces deliberately 'distressed' to look used. This means reinventing vintage items and giving them new life.

    2. Key Pieces Whimsical designs ranging from crystal chandeliers, floral fabrics, old-fashioned lampshades, wrought-iron furniture, comfortable armchairs, candles, recycled accessories and offbeat ideas like using an old teapot to hold fresh flowers. There's no running away from wallpaper, furs and curtains if you're going for the European vintage look.

    3. Color: Light vs Dark Personally, I like to opt for light colors like white and cream as they evoke a more breezy and casual touch. It's also the classic base palette of the vintage look. This color is also easy to work on since you don't have to worry about clashing color. Alternatively, rich and darker color like burgundy, purple, black with gold accents can also character to the room.

    4. Cheap & Chic The key to a bona fide vintage look is, well, vintage pieces. As such, you'll need to include second-hand pieces which do not break the bank.

    5. Coordination Rules There are practically no rules on putting the pieces together. However, it is important to visualize the impact of all your mismatched bits and pieces when placed together. While we are not talking Stepford Wives perfection, it helps to create a theme or motif that recurs throughout the space. For instance, pick a family of colors and vary them subtly. Using white as an example, we'd be looking at egg shell, cream, caramel etc.

    6. Where to Shop Anywhere! From ebay to antique malls and flea markets, the important rule is to know what you want but be flexible to adapt when necessary. If doubt sets in, do not commit to a purchase.

Kohala Coast Retreat

    Aloha everybody,
Let's continue on our jouney to discover some other qualities of Hawaii and the Kohala Coast than 'just a lovely beach'. There is so much more to find on our island. Desiree, cofounder of Kamuela Life Retreats, Big Island of Hawaii, will share her and her husband's ideas with our visitors today. We think this is a great way to combine a Kohala Coast vacation with addressing some personal issues in your life. So, if you liked what she had to say and you are interested in more information about their Hawaii retreats, visit their website. Enjoy Desiree's post of today. Aloha, Pua www.kohalacoastweb.com

Are You Where You Belong In Life?

Many people come to the Big Island of Hawaii for personal renewal and reflection. The first time I came to Hawaii in 1974 I fell in love. Not with a person. I fell in love with this warm, colorful, sensuous, smiling island. I somehow felt at home, like I was where I belonged in life. However, belonging is not only about location. It is about your life.

Now, this is what I do for a living with my husband, Mark. We lead retreats on the Kohala Coast on the Big Island of Hawaii helping other people get clear where they belong in life. What dream do you have brewing? Are you at a crossroads or feeling unsure about your next steps? Perhaps it is time to make a change in your business or personal life and you don’t know where to begin? The following quote by Philosopher, Harold Thurman Whitman speaks volumes about the importance of igniting your own fire.

“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs—ask yourself what makes you come alive,
and then go do it. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive.”

Our Hawaii Retreat business opportunity came to us after we hit this same turning point three years ago and became clear what would make us come alive. We knew it was time for a change and we each began asking ourselves the hard questions. Things like: What do I want my life to be about? How can I create greater meaning and fulfillment in my lives? How can I use my talents and skills to make a difference to others?

The answers we found took us both by surprise. “Move to the Big Island of Hawaii and teach others how to find clarity of purpose and direction. Teach them how to navigate transition with greater ease and effectiveness.” Hummm… sounds good, but how could we possibly step into doing this. We did not understand the changes we were about to make, yet stepping toward this vision seemed like the only choice that would bring resolution to our uneasiness. Move, start over and begin a new business. Yikes! Oh, but our vision and the Big Island of Hawaii were both powerful lures. So here we are living our dream near the beautiful Kohala Coast on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Running the Hawaii Retreat and Mentoring programs is simply our way of bringing the healing, Aloha Spirit to the rest of the world…one person, one group and one retreat at a time. So combine your next visit to Hawaii with time for focused reflection along the Kohala Coast. Simply take five days with us to redesign your life around what holds real meaning for you so that where ever you go… you are where you belong in life…for the rest of your life!

    Warm Aloha Blessings,

    Desirée Watson,
Cofounder Kamuela Life Retreats, Hawaii Big Island

Creating a Unique Room with a Wall Mural

Home interior decorating distinction truly lies in details, the personal touches and unusual twists that make a room entirely unique. To put your personal mark of creativity in your home, do what many professional interior designers do: use a Wall Mural.

Wall Murals are among the most versatile of decorating tools. Furthermore, they are affordable and easy to install. Any wall takes on a more finished look with the addition of a Wall Mural.

Wall Murals are extremely useful in the kitchen. Kitchens typically contain permanent appliances and cabinets that separate wall space. By adding an elegant Wall Mural with a Tuscan or garden theme, the overall space will be unified while also giving the room greater depth and visual appeal.

A Wall Mural can also provide a visual transition between the kitchen and the living room beyond it. Choose a bright or whimsical design, such as Tokyo Night or Japanese Temple at Dusk.

Experts agree that we spend nearly a third of our lives asleep! With that in mind, you can easily transform your bedroom into a luxurious, comforting haven with a beautiful, serene Wall Mural (such as one depicting a sunrise, sunset, or water theme). Make your most private room your favorite with the clever addition of a Wall Mural.

Now you're on a roll. So why not use a Wall Mural to decorate your powder room, guest room, dining room, foyer, or home office? The possibilities are endless. The addition of a Wall Mural makes your living space unique and beautiful. Give your walls an instant face lift with a Wall Mural!

Find a wide selection of Wall Murals at http://www.artistichomeowner.com. You may also inquire about Custom Wall Murals.

Exciting tips on lighting design

Some time we do not know why we like or dislike a particular room or interior. Proper lighting and illumination is the most important factor in designing an attractive environment. Today there are many villa lighting applications, which can be used to meet up specific lighting needs.

General or Ambient Lighting: It refers to an overall level of light that makes a room or space more comfortable and safe for intended use. Recessed lighting is very popular and comes in 3 to 8 diameter. Recessed lighting is available in hundreds of styles and colors to control the spread of light in particular decor or theme. House is an actual enclose that is installed into the attic and connected to power system. In the office environments, general lighting is offered in form of luminous fluorescent ceiling panels.

Task Lighting: It refers to the higher level of light offered specially at work areas such as kitchen islands, countertops and desks. Additional light could be redirected to these areas using recessed or pendant fixtures. Fixtures with either low or line-voltage halogen offer a whiter, warmer light. 5 watt xenon or halogen lamps spaced 6 inches apart are most suitable for task lighting purposes where the fixture is within 24 inches of the work surface. The transformer is as well included in many low voltage fixtures but it is sometimes separated depending on the particular fixture and style.

Accent Lighting: Accent lighting is approximately four times the level of ambient light in any area. Same again, Halogen lighting type fixtures offer a whiter, brighter look than standard incandescent or florescent type of fixtures. The chosen fixture needs to be directional on swivel type fixture to aim the light exactly where it is required. To further meet the needs of this ever-growing group of Hawaii tourists, the First Hawaii Island Conference on Health and Wellness Travel was recently held on the Big Island with great success. The conference helped launch the Hawaii Island Health and Wellness Travel Association, which was successful in signing up more than 100 members at the event. Japanese Interior Decorating Style

How to achieve the clean. serene look of Japanese style in your home. Using a few accents to create this effect. How Japanese culture affects Japanese design.

Using some Japanese decorating details in your home's decor will absolutely transform its look. Japanese decorating automatically adds a calm and serene beauty to your surroundings. Even just a few details from this school of design will help to change your home and help it to reflect a less hectic lifestyle.

It does not take a professional decorator to achieve this transformation from frantic to serene. It just requires a investment of time and money (and not much of either) to learn about the style and obtain some Japanese decorative items. How do you achieve a Japanese look in a room or home? Let's look at the culture of Japan to get some clues. The Japanese culture is based on formal. polite. calm manner of doing just about everything. This is reflected in their home design. Very simple designs. without a lot of color or detail. is the hallmark of Japanese design. The Japanese decorate with a few sleek pieces. such as mats and screens in simple fabrics and designs. It is more important to choose the right item or artifact than to have a lot of different things in the room.

The role of natural light is very important to Japanese design. and rice paper screens and walls are used to allow light to shine through. while still affording privacy. To emulate this look. you should use soft curtains in light colors such as white or cream. with no decorations or detail around the windows. An open plan room. which allows light to enter every part of it. is very Japanese in feel. Floor mats or screens to delinate different areas take the place of walls. The whole concept is very minimalist. with no clutter or knick-knacks around.

The simplest look that you can achieve is the look that will reflect a Japanese feel. Tables. for example. are usually low black lacquer. without any vases or cloths on it. Plain hardwood floors will have no covering. and since the Japanese remove their shoes in the house. none is needed. All of the furniture is low. with clean cut lines. These lines are the essential spirit of Japanese design. You will see lots of straight lines and few curves in Japanese design. including on walls. furniture and any of the few decorative items to be found. Natural products such as wood and stone are used almost exclusively. Use these tips to add the important elements of Japanese design to your home and you will have the desired simple beauty in no time.

Volcano Watch Big Island of Hawaii

    Volcano Watch Big Island

With the recent reports on the big
Kohala Coast earth quake still in the minds of Big Island residents and Big Island visitors to the 2006 Ironman Triathlon, the connection from the earthquake to our active Big Island volcanoes is easily made.

We figured some basic information on volcanic activity in the past and present cannot hurt, especially since a visit to our Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is on everybody’s agenda, however short their stay on our island. Besides a Mauna Kea Summit adventure, visiting a live volcano on the Big Island is one of the most fascinating experiences.

Have you ever sat outside on a warm summer evening and gazed up at the moon wondering what it was like for the astronauts to land there and walk around? I have and I tell you except that there is no atmosphere on the moon, parts of Volcanoes National Park remind me of pictures I’ve seen from the moon. It’s eerie driving around the Park, seeing all the desolation of recent lava flows, yet the beauty of new life sprouting from cracks in the lava and seeing up close new land being formed from ongoing lava flows.

One can easily spend a day or two exploring

7 Tips For Your Home Interior

A home is built with collected memories. Add warmth and comfort and you have the perfect sanctuary!

Cushions in floral patterns mix well with plain or striped cushions. Buy some inexpensive cushions and add one or two expensive ones if you like. Table runners are also great to add some new color to your home. Match the table runner with your cushions or buy two or three and use as place mats.

    1. Rule number one in decorating – there are no rules!
    2. Adjust the light in rooms. Light needs to be softer in rooms you “live”in and bright in rooms you “work” in. You can moderate light using blinds and shutters. Curtains are not always necessary.
    3. Mix expensive and inexpensive items.
    4. There are no formulas for choosing colors: find your personal spectrum. What is important is to create a sense of harmony, and that does not necessarily mean colors that match. Burned terracotta/orange might go well with deep red. Green might go well with the right shade of blue. Be bold!
    5. Get inspiration from books and interior magazines, or visit museums to find inspiration from the past.
    6. Try combining different textures and colors in interiors.
    7. Use loose covers on upholstery to bring inexpensive changes.

Curtains are More than just Window Dressings

Among the many elements of home decor that can enhance the feel of the home, curtains are the most useful. They are not merely window coverings; they provide style and grace, and they serve a more practical purpose by increasing your home energy efficiency.

Curtains are, basically, window dressings often substituted by blinds. They come in many shapes, sizes, and materials. They offer privacy and can change the look of the whole room. If you select your curtains carefully, you can increase the intimacy of your room, and add a touch of elegance and style to your home.

Choose the color of your home curtains carefully. It should match with the rest of the interior design and at the same time speak of your personal taste and style. However, in getting too personal do not forget the coordination with rest of the decor. What you want from the room and what you are is well reflected from the kind of color you choose for the curtains. If you have already decorated your house with the according to your taste and selection then choosing the curtain color would not be a problem.

When one is trying to create a cozy and intimate feel, curtains can play a material part in accomplishing this goal. Warm, rich colors, like reds and browns, "earthy" colors, enhance the intimate feel. They make a room seem smaller and warmer and can contribute to feelings of intimacy between friends and family. Make these rich colors in a material that is heavy and soft, like velvet or a similar fabric, and the feeling is complete.

On the other hand, choose cool colors, like blues and greens, for more elegant and formal rooms. They make the room look bigger and more spacious than it actually is. For cool colors, choose light fabrics like silk and linen. You can bring in formality and elegance to the room with light fabrics in opaque and solid cool colors.

You can have light translucent curtains for the summer months. They add to the cool breezy feel of the room. Use bright colors or light pastels to add to this appeal. These colors evoke openness and happiness. Prints and pastels used for window curtains enhance the breezy cool feeling of the room.

Curtains are more than just home decor. They remove the usual monotony and a feeling of living in fish bowl. Plus they add to the privacy and energy efficiency of the house. One you have pulled up the curtains, you feel warm and secured, since you know no one can look in or intrude on your privacy. Curtains act as very good heat insulators. Light fabrics for curtains in summers keep the home cool and thick one in winter keep it warm. Thus, you can save on you energy consumption costs.

Curtains are a normal part of our lives; we cannot do without them. They add to the beauty of the house and make us feel more comfortable. However, the secret lies in choosing curtains carefully for each room to create the desired effect.

Interior Design - Your Bathroom and the Hot Tub

Interior design is about creating a harmonious space to live in, about creating exciting and functional environments in your home. You don't have to be an interior designer to know that designing a bathroom deserves as much attention as designing all the other rooms. Today, many people choose luxurious bathroom fixtures: massage showers, whirlpools, hot tubs and so on. Massage showers and hot tubs are the most frequent fixtures used in the modern bathrooms.

If you've ever wondered what a hot tub is, the simplest definition comes from ancient times when the tubs were made of wood and their purpose was water treatment. Wooden hot tubs are still used in some spas and resorts, for the special touch they enhance the interior design with a certain "je ne sai quois" reminding us of long-forgotten times when there were no modern bathrooms and people had to bath in wooden tubs. Just remember: no matter how cool the wood hot tubs might look, they are extremely difficult to maintain, so choose something to really ease your stress and not something that will double the work in your home.

While some spas still use wooden tubs, there are many private spas that use specially designed hot tubs and whirlpools to create a relaxing atmosphere for their clients while still using the healing power of warm water. It is a known fact that warm water helps not only to reduce stress, but also to ease sore muscles and aches.

Would you like to design your own modern bathroom, a spa to relax and forget about your daily routine? Would you like to have something like this in your very own home? Could you? Yes, because modern bathroom fixtures were specially made to be affordable, functional and, above all, comfortable.

Interior design is an art that will allow you, even when you live in a small apartment, to transform your narrow bathroom into a real health spa. Sure, you'll not be able to fit an oversized hot tub into a tight space, but there are plenty of manufacturers who design hot tubs especially for users like you! You'll just need to look for some small, two-person hot tubs and you're done. Sure, if your bathroom is too small for a hot tub, or any tub for that matter, you could always choose a massage shower.

Many manufacturers design modern hut tubs and whirlpools to fit in most of the narrow bathrooms that still use small old tubs. The materials vary from molded plastic to acrylic and quarrycast. Quarrycast is a mineral crystal composite, a new material developed by Victoria & Albert Baths, to enhance your bathing experience: it's warm to the touch, keeping the water in your hot tub hot for a long time; it has a naturally high gloss finish and it can be colored with the dye of your choice, maximizing the interior design options in your bathroom.

If you choose a hot tub for your bathroom, you don't even have to worry about installation troubles. What you'll need is a hose and a power supply and you're done. Sure, when what you need is an in-ground hot tub for your garden, the job might get a little bit difficult, but not impossible and, above all, worth your time. Besides, outdoor spas are easier to maintain and cheaper, but if you want to install a hot tub indoors, make sure you use a good ventilation system, as a tub increases the humidity inside your bathroom and that might lead to mildew. Remember this advice and you'll do just fine!

History & Uses of Tiffany Lamps

For over 100 years Tiffany lamps and lighting have been an essential part of a luxurious home décor. These stained glass lamps are from the style and design of Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848 - 1933). Louis Tiffany used his creative talents to follow his love for art, instead of following in his father's footsteps. His father, Charles Lewis Tiffany, was the founder of the silver and jewelry firm Tiffany & Co. In the 1880's Louis turned his focus from his oil and watercolor works to interior design. The goal of Tiffany's new passion was to elevate interior design to the same level as fine art.

During this time Tiffany began using the discarded glass pieces from his stained glass panels to create the decorative lamps synonymous with his name. These lampshades were created by carefully fitting hundreds of hand cut glass pieces into copper foil enclosures. Copper foil is extremely light and strong which enabled Tiffany to design and create large and complex shades for his lamps. Commonly Tiffany lamps use a bronze sculpture base, but it is definitely not restricted to this material.

Tiffany style lamps can be used in many rooms within your home with various applications. Tiffany ceiling light fixtures are a great lighting source for illuminating a whole room. While smaller table lamps are an excellent source for directed lighting. If space is an issue Tiffany floor lamps can provide a lot of light while taking up minimal floor space. Tiffany lamps can also be found for desks, billiard lighting, walls sconces, and accent lighting.

Tiffany lamps have always been and will always be a beautiful piece of art as well as an outstanding addition to your home. Do not wait another day to add the timeless beauty and elegance of Tiffany lamps to your home. It is something many have always wanted and now is a great time to make it happen.

Tips On Curtain Design

When you are contemplating an interior decorating project in your home, you should not underestimate the impact that can be achieved by choosing the right drapes for each room. You need to be aware of a number of factors when you are looking for those perfect drapes. These include; what kind of room are you purchasing for? Are there any practical considerations that come with that particular room? What atmosphere or mood do you want to create in that room? What size are your windows? What existing décor do you need to coordinate with?

Here are some examples to illustrate the importance of these questions and to show you what we mean. When looking for curtains for your children's bedrooms, you probably don't want a heavy costly formal style. You will need instead something simple, with a colorful and fun pattern that can be easily taken down and washed.

On the other hand, in a formal dining area that is reserved purely for when you have guests, you can afford to be more extravagant and the heavy luxurious curtains can fit perfectly. For kitchens, you need to consider the positioning of your windows. Could long drapes cause a fire hazard, or become messy and stained very quickly? You are probably best to select well fitting washable curtains, or possibly even a blind.

Whatever room you are choosing your drapes for, be sure to have a good look at the rest of the décor, or existing furniture to see what your curtain design needs to go with. You don't need to coordinate all your soft furnishings, in fact the same fabric all over the room may be a little over the top. However, you do need to make sure that the colors and tones that you choose complement your existing scheme, rather than clashing with it.

If you can take along an existing seat cover or cushion when choosing your fabrics this will really help, as memory can easily distort color. There are so many colors and patterns of material available that you should have no trouble selecting just the right fabric to complement the rest of your room without overpowering it.

If you are confident with a sewing machine, you can create really original pieces at a very low cost by buying discount drapery material. Buying a little extra material to make small scatter cushions and perhaps a table runner, when backed by plain colored material accessories, can really give a professional finish to your room.

However, if you don't feel up to making your own, you will find an amazing choice of ready made, or made to order drapes and curtains to suit every room in the house and every possible taste. Shopping online can bring some great discounts on soft furnishings, but be sure to check the shipping costs do not outweigh the discount you receive. Take your time, shop around, and you will be sure to find the perfect solution to your window design needs.

Home Interior Decorating Tips - Get More for Less

Homeowners are looking for more cost-effective ways to improve the appearance, real estate market value, and usability of their homes. This is also true when it comes to home interior decorating.

One great way to cut costs is by recycling. Most people put emphasis on recycling things such as plastic containers, paper, and cans. But there are benefits to be realized by homeowners who also recycle wood products and other materials when they remodel, refurbish, or update the interior design of their home.

Recycle Wood to Increase Eye Appeal of Interior Design

Even if you don’t ordinarily decorate your home using second hand furniture or antiques, mixing old with the new can create a stunning effect. It can also save a great deal of money. All it takes is a sharp eye for a bargain and a little creativity.

For instance, a visit to a second hand shop could turn up used cabinet doors. By fitting mirrors behind one of the cabinets where panels would normally go, a rustic focal point with style and class can be created. Stress and refinish the wood before inserting the mirrors. Or cover with antique parchment paint in a soft pastel shade.

This charming mirror, reminiscent of country cottage days, is perfect for a vanity, as a backdrop to plants or an interior water feature. Or in a bedroom decorated with feminine charm.

Another interior decorating tip is to capture the beauty of naturally aged wood in custom designed furniture. Salvaged slabs of thick wood such as Douglas fir, cedar, oak, and pine make marvelous “one of a kind” counters, tables, stools, and shelves.

    Other ways to Recycle Material

A second hand store, yard sale, or even the attic is a great place to find other items that can be refurbished or simply cleaned up a bit, to compliment your interior room décor. An old antique bell makes an interesting, quaint replacement for a door bell. And old fashioned milk cans, favorite farming icons of days gone by, add a special touch of nostalgia and country charm to a room.

Try painting the can cream, cinnamon, spruce, soft buttercup yellow, or another color that compliments room color scheme. A cluster of hand-painted flowers (daisies, sunflowers, pansies, or cottage roses), herbs, or vines would add just the right touch.

This would make an enchanting umbrella stand near the front door. On a porch or patio it makes a lovely holder for plant pots that fit snuggly at the top of the can. Old-time favorites such as morning glories, sweet peas, jasmine, English ivy, or nasturtiums would be gorgeous trailing down over the sides.

    Recycle and Save

Old dry sinks, cabinets, and counters capture simple elegance when refurbished and used as bathroom vanities, night stands, and hall tables. Vintage light fixtures, doorknobs, hinges, and strike plates can also add a distinctive touch, while saving money.

Millions of tons of construction and demolition materials are discarded yearly. Homeowners who recycle wood and other materials when they redecorate not only save thousands of dollars. They reduce waste and help protect overuse of natural resources.

Why not call on the services of a licensed professional the next time you get ready to redecorate? Not only will they have terrific ideas for ways to incorporate recyclable materials into your home interior decorating plans. They most likely have resources you don’t have for acquiring the items. And, at a very affordable price!

Bedroom Decorating Ideas - Turn Your Bedroom Into A Getaway!

Your bedroom should be one of the most relaxing places in your home. If your bedroom feels disordered, you may not sleep well. Experts suggest mess or reminders of work in your sleeping space will interfere with getting a good night of sleep. These things keep your mind moving, and you may be worried about what you forgot to do, or what you will have to do the next day. You have to design your sleeping space for peace and relaxation. Bedroom decorating ideas are abundant, and your biggest problems might not be finding ideas, it might be narrowing down what you want from a list of things you like.

Bedroom decorating ideas are everywhere. You can find inspiration in magazines, on television, in movies, and even in store displays and catalogs. What you have to do is decide what feel you want for your sleeping area. In most cases, you want a relaxing color. A bright red or yellow might not be the best idea. However, a deep maroon or a very light yellow might be all right. The idea is to make sure the color is relaxing to your eye and not energizing or bright.

There are other bedroom decorating ideas you can consider. If you don't want to paint, you can choose to go with wallpaper. There are many from which to choose, and what you choose should be to your taste, but again, not bright or noisy. Look for something soothing, elegant, and easy on the eyes. You can find unique wallpaper designs by shopping around. You may not know what you are looking for, but don't let that stop you. You will know what you like when you see it.

You can also watch home improvement shows like Trading Spaces, or television networks like HGTV to get bedroom decorating ideas. The options are endless, and you may end up feeling overwhelmed. Once you have found three or four ideas you have fallen in love with, turn the television off. If you have too many choices, you will end up having a hard time narrowing it down. Don't let your selection of bedroom decorating ideas get the best of you.

If you can't decide and don't know what to do, you can ask with an interior designer to get bedroom decorating ideas. They will charge you a consulting fee, but it may be well worth it when you really want to do it yourself, but you have no idea where to begin. You can give them a general idea of what you want, and they can design something to fit the space you have, with the look you are looking for. They know how to mix and match colors, patterns, and ideas to make the perfect sleeping space for you.

Home Interior Design - Tips on Choosing Furniture Designs

What makes designers what they are? What makes them decide on a particular décor, a certain furniture, this carpet, that coffee table? And, most importantly, what makes their interior designs different from any ordinary housewife simply trying to create a home out of a house?

Like any field of expertise, interior designing and the feat of choosing furniture for your home require basic principles. Fortunately for the clueless housewife, she doesn’t have to be secret rocket scientists and she doesn’t need to rush to the nearest university for a crash course in interior designing. These basic principles, tips and guides are as easy as 1-2-3.

    Unity

Unity simply means having the same motif, the same theme for a particular room in your home. For example, while trying to redecorate your living room, you decide to go with a Victorian style with the color scheme burgundy. In selecting furniture, carpets, paintings and other décor for your Victorian living room, make sure that they fit perfectly into the Victorian look. Go for plush couches with intricately carved wooden arm rests. Go for similarly-toned curtain tassels that matches thick curtains with elaborate designs. A minimalist glass coffee table or an irregularly-shaped corner lounge chair made of metal in bright blue color simply will not do in a Victorian living room. Unity of design means all items, all furniture in the room are pulled together and unified by a single theme.

    Balance and Proportion

One very important element of Aesthetics and Western design is balance or proportion. This element simply means that items in a room must be well-distributed or equally and strategically placed all over the room. Avoid over-crowding one area of the room and leaving another area barren to the eyes. A good room with proper balance and proportion should have symmetry. Symmetry creates a feeling of serenity and stability in the room.

Any person can create a lovely home. With the help of these two basic elements in designing, anyone can choose a furniture design without fear of it being out of place in your new home. If you only stick to a design suited to your personality and follow these two above elements, nothing can go wrong. Choosing furniture designs according to your taste but tailoring it around these two elements will definitely make your new home a reflection of your personality.

Interior Design - The Truth, the Whole Truth

Have you wondered how it is you can make your home look just like the homes of the many celebrities and affluent people of this world that you seen in the many home magazines? Or is that you just want to make your home look beautiful. These can be done quite simply just through the use of interior design.

Many people often use interior designers to help enhance the architectural features or the furniture they already have in their homes.

An interior designer should know and also take into consideration the many different parts of design, what the proportions of the room, its function, the concept that the owner of the home is look for and how to balance all these together. By being able to do this an interior designer should be able to create the “look and feel” of a room that the house owner requires.

Say for example the owner of the house wishes to enhance the rooms use, thus by using the right combination of colours, layouts and shapes in the design this should be easily accomplished by any interior designer.

At all times an interior designer should include the following seven elements in their design to reach the best results for the home owner and these are shape, form, line, texture, colour, pattern and mass. But there are other things that a designer should also take into account those which include the beauty of the finished design in respect of its function and aesthetics. Knowing that they have reached a good balance of these time items will help to ensure that all elements of their design co-ordinate perfectly.

Unfortunately there may be times when one design may look beautiful to one person and the others may find it unsightly. It is therefore the function of the designer to ensure that as far as enhancing the total look of a space is concerned it should be liked by all people concerned. For this reason, and this reason alone you may find that the interior designer will look at his own idea of beauty and look at how the home owner will see it. However, the designer will always know the most appropriate use for the many different elements that will be associated with the different kinds of materials that he or she will be using in their designs. Thus, at all times an interior designer must take into consideration the likes and dislikes of their customers as they must not forget that they are being paid to enhance a space in the customers according their tastes and how that space is going to be utilized in the future.

By now the persuasive power of an interior designer should be convincing the client on the best design suited to their style. By doing this the designer will find that they will have less trouble in deviating away from the ideas of their clients, or else they may find that this client will no longer request their assistance in the future.

In fact being an interior designer does not mean that you have good taste or are able to improve the space in someone’s home, rather it is the amalgamation of a number of different elements of design combined with the interests of their clients.

The Two Pillars of a Successful Interior Design Project!

Whenever I think of any design, be it interior design or product design, a few things very naturally come up in my mind. These are in the form of questions.

The best part is, answers to these questions can give rise to a very successful design in itself. Let's see how.

If I am planning to design a piece of furniture, let's say a double bed, immediate I start relating to what I already know about double beds, some picture/image I have already seen, something I have seen in some furniture shop, etc...Then I start thinking about what material I should think about, the budget, dimensions, age group of people who are going to use it, etc... If you answer these questions one by one on a paper, you will get a blueprint of the design process, so that you can convert in into technical drawings, with all the joinery details and finally the product.

Amongst above mentioned questions some are directly related to function of the double bed as a piece of furniture.

    What does this mean?

When I ask myself, what should be the dimensions of a double bed? I have very little freedom to decide the dimensions of the bed, because there are certain norms to be followed in order to serve it's basic function and that's comfort.

But what if I say that I will keep the overall surface area of the bed same , but make it round in plan. Will it be ok..

Now here I am trying to achieve both function and aesthetics, without sacrificing the comfort of the person who will use it. So during any design process there will be times when the designer need to take some decisions where he has to keep aside his wildest ideas and pay attention to function first.

That's why the true success of an interior design project is a good balance between function and aesthetics.

Expressing this kind of balance through design is not an easy task, because function is universally accepted, but aesthetics, not always.

    What does this mean?

Beauty is always relative. A washbasin has a common universal function of an appliance to be used for washing hands, but it's beauty is relative. What is beautiful for me, might not hold true for you.

So a design expression can have a unique style of the designer himself. It is possible that the designer is more comfortable with certain kinds of materials/finishes/color schemes, etc.. which can reflect in his designs.

In spite of these personal touches a good designs always caters the needs of the user first. A good designer has a certain kind of convincing power in his/her style which he uses to expresses in the design without sacrificing the likes/dislikes of the user.

There are designers who are more comfortable in designing only a certain kind space such as bathrooms, bedrooms, living rooms, public spaces such as restaurants, clubs, gymnasiums.

Of course this is entirely of a personal choice, but there is this same message in their designs, shell out your ego and design for the best parameters with worst possibilities taken into considerations. This is what gives birth to a great design.

I hope this article was helpful.

Interior Design For The Home

Any home can be pleasing with the proper application of basic interior design methods. Some people study interior design to be very good at it but there are people who are gifted with an eye for beauty and for interior designing.

A person who is creative can do some interior designing on his own even without formal training. Those who have an eye for what is aesthetic can just as easily decorate and design his own house depending on his tastes. Of course, it helps to read books and articles about designing to be updated on the basic and latest design methods.

Any interior designer can create a specific atmosphere just by putting together several pieces and unifying them in a single theme. There are interior designers who have a bias for certain motifs like eclectic, modern or even country style. Some go for simple designs without the clutter.

Interior design is not only aesthetic but also functional depending on the requirements of the client. An interior designer can make a small room spacious and an otherwise cluttered room into an orderly one. Interior design is used just about anywhere from homes, offices to commercial buildings.

The interiors of a room should always match the personality of the person who will occupy that room. This is the reason why designers always work closely with their clients so they can make sure that they get a feel of what their clients want in terms of design style.

People have this notion that interior design is expensive. However, designers are not only creative people but they are also very good in budgeting. Most designers will work on a design that will match or fit the budget of their clients. A person can allot a minimal amount for the interior design of his home or office and still come up with an aesthetic and functional room.

Professional interior designers who are formally trained usually have basic knowledge on architecture, engineering and even accounting. They need these courses to make their design aesthetic, structurally correct and cost effective.

The terms Interior design and interior decorating have often been used interchangeably. However, the two terms actually deal with different phases of making a room or a space aesthetic. Interior design is basically the process of studying the personality of the occupant of the room being designed in order to maximize and tailor-made the room’s design for that person's behavior and personality.

Interior decorating on the other hand is the process of actually mixing and matching the different design techniques like window treatments, the right wallpaper, wall finish and even the furnishing of a room.

There are a lot of opportunities for those in the interior design and decorating industry. An interior designer can go into designing household, corporate or commercial establishments. Others specialize in the design of health facilities or even tourism establishments.

The latest trend now for those in the interior design industry is to be able to incorporate the right engineering and aesthetic design with sustainable development. Even designers are now more conscious about the state of the environment so they tend to use environmentally friendly materials for their designs.

There are designers who specialize and use Feng Shui in their designs. This requires further study because Feng Shui deals with the Chinese’s ancient methods of designing a space to make the design work for the owner’s health, business and other life factors.

The Chinese believes that a structure should be properly designed so as to allow positive energy to enter the structure. When the structure has already been built without the aid of a Feng Shui expert, the mistakes can be corrected through proper interior design using the Feng Shui methods.

By incorporating Feng Shui in interior design, it is believed that a person can bring out all the positive energies in a room to make him rich, happy and healthy. An interior design using Feng Shui can also get rid of bad spirits that bring in negative atmosphere in an abode.

Getting the services of an interior designer can make a room both aesthetic and functional. Any person who wants to make his home livable and functional should try getting the services of an interior designer to maximize his space.

Decorating on a Budget - 15 Easy Steps

Many years ago I was told that the least expensive way to redecorate is to rearrange what you have. It was one of the best decorating suggestions I’ve ever had-not to mention the one that can be the most fun to implement. How can you beat it? A new room-practically free! You get such a feeling of satisfaction when you accomplish something spectacular using your imagination and what you already have.

Of course, like many suggestions there is a good way to do this and one that isn’t quite so satisfactory. So here’s a step by step.

    1. Choose the room you want to give a new look.

    2. Decide on the type of change you would like. Do you want it brighter, lighter, more sophisticated, or more casual? Do you want to give it a contemporary flavor or make it a bit exotic?

    3. Take a good look at what is in the room and decide what doesn’t fit the new look/theme that you chose. What is worn out, out of place or out of proportion?

    4. Assess the room: Stand in each doorway and in each corner of the room and give it a good hard look. Would the furniture look better on an angle? What is the traffic pattern? You don’t want furniture sitting in the way of how you need to move about the room. Most of us can’t afford to have a room that just sits and looks pretty. A well designed room works for you.

    5. Make a list of the items you want tokeep and measure them.

    6. Take a buying trip through your house and see what you can use from other rooms. One very important suggestion: double check measurements and colors of the pieces you have “bought” from other rooms. If you want to expand a little, there are frequently friends or relatives who have pieces in their homes they would like to get rid of, so if you don’t have quite what you like, check the family cast offs. Note: You might find you need to freshen your walls with a coat of paint or cover a chair or sofa with a slipcover or purchase new lampshades, but expense should be kept at a minimum, or you defeat your purpose.

    7. Once you have your look and know what pieces are available to you, put it all on paper. You need to have a plan, because you could lose your ‘willing’ helpers if they have to move a sofa 6 or 7 times to get the right look because you didn’t do your homework. Pay special attention to electrical and cable outlets, heat and air vents and doors and windows. Lighting is important and unless you’re trying the hard way to keep the kids out, you want to be able to get in and out of the room easily and move around comfortably in it.

    8. Clear your room. Take the unnecessary pieces and accessories away and put the pieces you want to keep together in another room.

    9. It’s time to paint the walls and clean the windows and woodwork if needed. Shampoo carpets, wash floors and make sure your background is sparkling and clean.

    10. If there are any small items you are going to need to purchase to complete the look, go do it while everything is drying. DO NOT go shopping without a list. You have your plan and you know what accessories you need to complete your look. The easiest way to get off budget and end up with clutter is to go without a list.

    11. When the paint and floors are dry, place rugs on the floor (before you move in the furniture). It is also easier to do window treatments now while the room is empty. They can be adjusted later.

    12. Gather your helpers. Move in the larger pieces of furniture. Add your smaller pieces such as tables and ottomans and then bring in the accessories.

    13. Lamps are very important, so make sure they are located where they will work the best. Don’t under light your room.

    14. Hang your pictures and adjust window treatments.

A note: less is more. An uncluttered room will give a more of an impression of newness then one with too much of everything.

    15. Enjoy your new room. In fact throw a party and let everyone admire what you’ve accomplished. You’ll be able to afford it with the money you’ve saved.

    Happy decorating!

Bathroom Vanities - How Vanity Furniture Can Transform Your Bathroom

When it comes to bathroom vanities, there's something to please all tastes and suit all budgets. Nothing adds to the character of a bathroom quite like a well-chosen vanity cabinet or dressing table. Bath vanities take center stage in a room and as such play a vital role in defining a bathroom's look and ambiance. Here are some things to consider when choosing new vanity furniture.

A critical part of planning your bathroom design is deciding on a decorating theme. Think about the décor throughout your home, be it period, country cottage or contemporary, and decorate your bathroom accordingly. Bath vanities come in all kinds of styles and finishes, from hand painted to distressed, from ornately carved to minimalist and functional straight lines.

In smaller bathrooms, replacing a traditional pedestal sink with a stylish sink vanity cabinet can make more efficient use of the space. Bathroom sink vanities combine useful storage space and countertop surface with enduring style. If you've got a big room, a double sink vanity could work well, adding a touch of elegance as well as being practical for couples and families.

Bedroom vanities can fit in well in large bathrooms, providing a convenient and attractive place to dress and perform daily grooming rituals. However, a bedroom vanity is unlikely to be as water resistant as a bathroom vanity, so it must be placed well away from where it could be splashed. Vanity tables with matching stools or chairs, mirrors and makeup trays are often sold as sets, helping you to save money if you're doing your bathroom makeover on a budget.

Whatever your personal preferences and price range, you're sure to find some stunning bathroom vanities or bedroom vanity furniture which can transform your bathroom and give it a beautiful new image.

Tips for Custom Home Decorating

So the time has come for bedroom decorating. Perhaps you have moved to a new home, or rental, or have decided to upgrade your current home to a fresh new look. Whatever the reason you have decided to undertake the task of decorating your living space, there are some simple and creative ideas which can make the process easier. The process itself may seem difficult. There is a lot to think about, your time, your lifestyle and your budget are a few examples. These are only three of the many things which need to be taken into account before you embark on the adventure of custom decorating your home.

Many people simply hire an interior designer to help them decide the best route to go with their new look. However professional designers are not cheap and you can easily double the price of your project by using a professional consultant. Besides, decorating does not have to be a daunting or tedious task. The reason that professional decorators are so good at what they do comes from education, experience and resources. If you don't have the money for a decorator, or want to be creative but don't know where to start then this article is for you. By utilizing a few simple tips and knowing where to look you can come up with a professional look at a budget price and also, have fun doing it.

Your budget is the first thing that you should consider when developing a plan. When considering this you should think about the fact that the average person spends about a third of their life sleeping, in addition to the time you spend in your room relaxing, getting ready for work and spending time with your loved ones. Considering this it is important to remember, that investing in quality materials is worth it. It is also important to be creative; if you have skills such as sewing, construction or anything else be sure to fully utilize these skills in your plan and therefore your budget. Using skills that you already have will allow you to save money and invest more in quality materials, enabling you to create a long lasting, beautiful, and comfortable ambiance.

The next key to success is to come up with your design. Think about the basics of what it will encompass. Overall the focus will be the color palette and common design elements. Use existing elements in your home, the color of your carpet, your wardrobe, even your kitchen to create a palette. There are some good resources on the internet to help you come up with coloring which fits your lifestyle. Check out Waverly's website. Waverly has developed tools for you to use to help you determine the tones, and the styles which will work for you.

Once you have developed an idea of the look that you want, the next step would be to choose the products you will use. In a bedroom, the focus will most likely be the bed and therefore the bedding. Utilizing the color palette you have decided on you can choose from bedding ensembles from any of the major manufacturers. However, some companies offer several advantages for the amateur decorator. Thomasville is a great company to check out. Thomasville has the advantage of being able to choose from either complete ensembles or mix and match individual pieces to create a customized look. In addition Thomasville sells their fabrics by the yard so you can create additional items to compliment your ensemble. Lampshades, table coverings, upholstering furniture, these are just a few of the things that you can do.

If you are feeling really adventurous you can take advantage of Waverly's beautiful fabrics to hand create custom bedding. Since Waverly does not sell bedding ensembles if you want to use their fabrics you will need to construct your own, or hire a seamstress to create an ensemble. However, there are manufacturers who create their own custom ensembles using Waverly fabrics. Aj MOSS has their own line of ensembles created from Waverly fabrics. These fabrics have legendary quality and beauty, using Waverly will definitely create an elegant look.

Once you find the right bedding ensemble designing the rest of your bedroom is next. Look for great Waverly wallpapers, which are sold in patterns which match their fabrics. Waverly paints or standard store paints which match the color palette of your design can be used as well. Croscill and Thomasville sell some very nice bathroom accessories which you can purchase to tie your master bathroom into your master bedroom.

Creating a comfortable home with a warm feeling is not difficult when you have the tools necessary to complete the job. The internet is a great source of information when looking for design tips, ideas, and suggestions from experts etc. If you have the time and inspiration you can create a beautiful living space which will have an expensive look at a budget price. You will look at your creation and know that you made it, adding to the warmth and personality of your home.

Western Decorating Ideas For Your Kitchen

If you are into the Western decorating theme, you can have a lot of fun using it to decorate your kitchen. In fact, you can take one element of the theme and go crazy with it. For instance, one Western decorating idea is to focus on a Western object like some cowboy boots or a cowboy hat. You can even combine elements and use both of them as your central decorating theme.

You can find all types of decor in the Western decorating theme. Try looking for cookie jars or other ceramics that you can sit out on your counter for an interesting effect. Also look for western themed curtains and light switch covers. One fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon is to scour the local antique shops for Western themed decor. You’ll be surprised at the interesting items you can find! You can use browns, red, navy, or cream to pull in the Americana theme to the mix as well.

One great way to pull off the theme is to also look for accents made of unfinished wood. You can often find tables and chairs that actually look like they were made with unfinished logs. These are perfect for a Western decorated kitchen. In addition, you can use photo frames that look unfinished and put pictures of your family or of western mountains and hills in them. You can also find many items made from tree branches or logs as well as items made from deer antlers and items covered in cow hide (either faux or real!)

Another great thing to use is copper or black iron accents. You can get away with either of these. If you have a pot hanger over your kitchen island, you should try mixing both copper pieces and cast iron pieces. In addition, you can even use cast iron skillets or pans as wall decor and hang them accordingly. And don’t forget pot holders, tablecloths and dish towels made with Western theme fabrics.

Try your own Western decorating ideas in your kitchen to see exactly what works for you and what doesn’t. The Western theme is perfect if you love to constantly feel like you are the “Wild West” or in a log cabin. It can look great in any home if you are consistent with the decor. Using Western style accents on the counters, window treatments, floors and walls will help pull the look together and make you feel like you are rustling up grub for your cowhands on a Western ranch even if you are living in a modern city home!
